Mind Waves Community Correspondent Maureen was key in organising our creative writing for mental wellbeing workshop last month. Not only did she help plan and deliver the session, she also wrote this amazing poem inspired by the writing prompts on the day!
I love to walk in the rain because no one can see my tears.
Let it wash away my sorrow, my fears, my hopelessness.
Until the sun comes out again to give me hope and bring on a smile.
To cleanse my soul and bring joy into my life.
The sun shines brightly, blinding me for just a second, as I gaze into the blue sky.
The trees rustle in the light breeze and the birds sing.
I smell the earth of the forest floor beneath my feet.
My mouth fresh from the clean air.
I wander through the trees, feeling the soft earth on my feet and the jagged branches of the trees.
The first draft is just you telling yourself the story.
Finding your beginning, middle and end.
Looking to the chapters of your life and deciding how to tell your tale,
how to help others understand your journey.
We were put on this Earth to fart around and don’t let anyone tell you differently.
Whether your life is shite or a bed of roses,
You are the author of your own story.
So… make of it what you will but hey, don’t make a complete arse of it.
