Most of us live in a world of social media, flicking through instagram shots and uploading snaps we’ve taken on our phones. But what’s the impact on our mental wellbeing? Can just looking at a picture make you feel different? Can it soothe you, excite you or make you nervous?
The people at Project Soothe at Edinburgh University are running a fascinating piece of citizen science, asking people to spend five minutes looking at pictures and rating how it makes them feel.
They want to use what they learn to create a bank of soothing pictures that they can use for psychotherapy and future research.
It’s a really interesting exercise to do, taking the time to think about how you feel after looking at a picture. You can contribute to the research by completing the survey here.
And if there are any great pictures that you find particularly soothing, whether it’s a baby photo or a landscape, we’d love to share them with our followers here at Mind Waves. Get in touch or tweet @mindwaves1 if there’s something you’d like to share.
